Periodontal Care at Midtown Dental

Periodontal Care

If you are dealing with gum disease, we offer periodontal maintenance at Midtown Dental. This specialized deep cleaning is designed to prevent gum and tooth decay while halting the progression of gum disease.

Periodontal disease, commonly known as gum disease, is a serious condition caused by the accumulation of bacteria in plaque on your teeth. If your gums are tender, red, swollen, or bleed easily, you may be experiencing the early signs of this degenerative disease. Left untreated, gum disease can lead to the loss of teeth, gum tissue, and even bone. Although gum disease cannot be cured, it can be effectively managed with regular periodontal maintenance, protecting your oral health and preventing further damage.

What is Periodontal Care?

Periodontal care involves regular visits to our office, typically every three months, for a professional cleaning. During these appointments, we perform a thorough cleaning both above and below the gumline, removing plaque, tartar (hardened plaque, also known as dental calculus), and harmful bacteria. This process helps to prevent the progression of gum disease and keep your condition under control.

Regular maintenance every three months is crucial because periodontal bacteria begin to flourish within three to 12 weeks if biofilm is not removed. By scheduling a cleaning every 12 weeks, we can effectively eliminate these bacteria and manage the disease.
